Description
As the key is inserted into the slot, the ignition's tumblers are pushed into a predetermined sequence, enabling the key to be spun to close the ignition circuit. This circuit then supplies energy to the starter motor, which turns the engine so that the spark plugs can fire and operate.
Because the water is a vengeful mistress, ships frequently have specialized ignition keys. Even high-quality stainless steel will corrode quickly in harsh weather and sea spray. Marine ignition keys are from a unique type of steel that offers the highest level of weather resistance.
